Sacramento, California- November 3, 2020: Mai Vang awaits results at an outdoor election night party in Sacramento's Meadowview neighborhood. Early results showed she held 50% of the votes in the 2020 Sacramento City Council race for District 8. As of November 19, Mai Vang maintained a 52% lead over her opponent Les Simmons. Mai Vang will become the first Hmong woman and first Asian American woman to hold a seat on the Sacramento City Council. Vang will also bring the number of women on the Council to three.
